Description:

Kinston's professional baseball roots date back to 1908 and its entry in the Eastern Carolina League. The North Carolina community has been affiliated with 11 different major-league franchises during its time in MiLB, with Grainger Stadium hosting these Clubs beginning in 1962.

After seven different turns as the Kinston Eagles and three adoptions its parent club's name (Expos in 1975 and Blue Jays from 1982-1985), the Indians' brand debuted in 1987 when Kinston formally aligned with the Cleveland Indians. The player-development partnership continued through Kinston's final game in 2014.

After a shuffling of ownership changes, the Southern League's Carolina Mudcats' franchise relocated to Pensacola (FL) before the 2012 season, and Kinston's Carolina League entry moved to Zebulon (NC) and continued to use the iconic Mudcats' identity.

MiLB affiliated baseball returned to Kinston in 2016 as the Texas Rangers purchased the expansion Carolina League franchise after the California League contracted two of its teams. The Down East Wood Ducks continue to play in a renovated Grainger Stadium.
