The Quad Cities region connecting five - yes, five - communities on the Illinois-Iowa border has a long and storied history in professional baseball. The current Quad Cities River Bandits' franchise started in 1960 and adopted its MLB parent name until 1992, when the River Bandits was introduced.

Before the 2004 season, the River Bandits' then-ownership group wanted a new and unique direction and identity for the franchise, and a name-the-team contest introduced MiLB to the Swing of the Quad Cities. Sporting a unique color palette of powder blue, rust, gold and navy, the Swing's uniforms also consisted of non-matching numerals (one larger than the other) and a baseball bursting out of a stylized saxophone shaped like an "S."

The franchise switched back to the River Bandits in 2008, but collectors have paid premiums for Swing-branded merchandise in recent years; most notably the original powder blue home cap.
