Description:

As the only MiLB Club to ever use a skunk as its primary identifier, the South Atlantic League's Polecats arrived in Albany (GA) in 1992 after spending seven seasons in Sumter (SC), under both the Braves (1985-1990) and Flyers (1991) monikers. The franchise originated in 1980 as the Anderson (SC) Braves before its move to Sumter. During its 4-year run in Albany, the Polecats were affiliated with the Montreal Expos and Baltimore Orioles.

The Polecats' most notable alumni is 9-time All-Star and 2004 AL MVP, Vladimir Guerrero. Albany was also home to 33 future MLB players.

After the 1995 season, the Polecats relocated to Salisbury, Maryland and became the Delmarva Shorebirds, a name that continues today.
